WELCOME

You are warmly invited to participate in the Aniva Pacific Nurses Research Fono 2024 that will be held at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre, Auckland on 29 & 30 October 2024. The Fono is open to anyone interested in nursing and related disciplines, and everyone who is involved in the development and use of knowledge that improves the health of Pacific Peoples in Aotearoa New Zealand and in the Pacific region through nursing practice or the context in which nurses practice.

Over two days, with a diverse array of speakers, thought-provoking sessions, and networking opportunities, the Fono will provide participants with the opportunity to showcase nursing services and research, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and most importantly, forge connections and networks that will progress Pacific health.

Theme:  Our Pacific Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care

Sub-Themes:

  • Pacific Nursing initiatives and investments that improve the health and wellbeing of Pacific people in Aotearoa/New Zealand and/or in the Pacific.

  • Pacific Islands regional nursing initiatives and investments that improve the quality of care provided for Pacific people in the region.

The overall theme highlights the need to recognise nurses and related disciplines as a core strength of the health system and that strategic investment in nursing can lead to improvements in healthcare.

The World Health Organisation identifies that the role of nurses is often under-valued and nurses face financial constraints. During COVID and the years since, we have seen heavy workloads, and understaffing, with stress and burnout of nurses increasingly reported in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the Pacific region. The work that is done by our Pacific nurses and their experiences are rarely reported and/or used to plan, deliver and evaluate health systems and services. This lack of visibility means that investment in nursing initiatives can often be overlooked.

Our Fono serves as a platform for nurses, researchers, practitioners, thought leaders, policymakers and government leaders to come together, exchange ideas, and explore research in to practice and improves the health and well-being of Pacific peoples.

We encourage you to submit an abstract for your poster or presentation.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to network with peers, learn and be a part of shaping the future of Pacific health.
