Aniva Future Pacific Nurse Leaders

Aniva Future Pacific Nurse Leaders (AFPNL) is a support programme for undergraduate and pre-registration nursing students of indigenous Pacific Island ancestry. All Aniva Future Leaders students receive a grant each semester to assist with the nursing specific costs of study such as, health screening, vaccinations, equipment, uniform and clinical placement travel.

Aniva Future Leaders also provides networking opportunities with senior Pacific Nurses to explore a wide range of nursing roles, and support for examination bootcamps and Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) State Final Examinations.
 

Applications now open for Semester 1 2026

Applications are currently open for the following Aniva Future Pacific Nurse Leaders (AFPNL) pathways. Students are encouraged to review the relevant section carefully before applying.

New Nursing Students

This pathway is for new nursing students entering their first semester of study and returning students who have not previously received AFPNL support.

Renewing AFPNL Students

This pathway is for returning students who have previously received AFPNL support and are continuing a pre-registration nursing programme.

State Final Exam Grant

This application is for existing AFPNL students who will be sitting the next NCNZ state exam in March 2026.

Eligibility

To join the Aniva Future Leaders programme, nursing students must be:

*Indigenous Pacific island descent includes any of the following islands: American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Rapanui (Easter Island), Rotuma, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna.

a New Zealand citizen, resident or permanent resident at the time of application

of indigenous Pacific Island descent* and able to provide evidence of indigenous Pacific Island ancestry

pre-registration and currently enrolled in an approved nursing programme at a participating Tertiary institution

Application Process

To join Aniva Future Leaders, nursing students should submit the following supporting documentation with their completed online application form:

  1. Copy of current Student ID card

    • The student ID card must be for one of the participating Institutions listed in the above table.

    • New students may provide an enrolment confirmation letter showing their student ID number in order to progress their Aniva Future Leaders application, must provide a copy of their student ID card as soon as it is available.

  2. Proof of bank account

    • Acceptable documents include a bank statement or a screenshot of bank account details.
      Students will also need to agree to the Terms and Conditions of the programme.

  3. Proof of NSN number

    • Students must provide proof of their NSN to support enrolment verification and track completion of programme.

  4. Evidence of indigenous Pacific ancestry

    • Students must provide genealogy details demonstrating indigenous Pacific Island descent. Additional verification documentation may be requested as part of the application process.
