

Dr Pamela F. Cipriano
PRESIDENT, INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF NURSES (ICN)
Dr Pamela Cipriano, an internationally recognised nursing leader, is the 29th President of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and a Professor at the University of Virginia’s School of Nursing and Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy in Charlottesville, VA. She previously served as ICN’s First Vice President, and president of the American Nurses Association.

Dr Cipriano is well known, both in her own country, the United States of America, and internationally, as a strong advocate for the nursing profession, with extensive experience as an academic medical center executive focusing on improving the quality and safety of service delivery and the work environment. She has been instrumental in studying the safety of EHRs as well as technologies that improve clinical workflow and efficiency, and advocating for nurse-led design and testing of technologies that support nursing care.

During her over 40-year career, she has led efforts to advance the role and visibility of nurses and increase nursing’s impact and influence on policy.
​
Dr Cipriano is a leader in the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience, which aims to prevent burnout and improve the physical and mental health and well-being of all clinicians. She is a co-chair of the UHC2030 Task Force advancing actions to achieve the aims of universal health coverage in all countries. She has received numerous awards and was named as a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing in 2023.
