CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
INVITATION
Submissions for the call for abstracts closed on 30 August 2024.

THEMES AND SUB-THEMES
The theme for this year's Aniva Pacific Nurses Research Fono is:
"Our Pacific Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care."
. . . and the subthemes are:
-
Pacific Nursing initiatives and investments that improve the health and wellbeing of Pacific people in Aotearoa/New Zealand and/or in the Pacific.
-
Pacific Islands regional nursing initiatives and investments that improve the quality of care provided for Pacific people in the region.

The overall theme highlights the need to recognise nurses as a core strength of the health system and that strategic investment in nursing can lead to improvements in healthcare.

The World Health Organisation identifies that the role of nurses is often under-valued and nurses face financial constraints. During COVID and the years since, we have seen heavy workloads, and understaffing, with stress and burnout of nurses increasingly reported in Aotearoa New Zealand. The work that is done by our Pacific nurses and their experiences are rarely reported and/or used to plan, deliver and evaluate health systems and services. This lack of visibility means that investment in nursing initiatives can often be overlooked.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
The Fono will provide an opportunity to hear the voices of Pacific nurses and showcase our work and research. We invite submissions in all areas linked to Pacific nursing and research undertaken by Pacific nurses and related disciplines.

Who submits an abstract?
The Fono is open to anyone interested in nursing, Pacific health and research. It will be of interest to nurses, and colleagues in related disciplines, involved in the development and use of knowledge that impacts on improving the health of Pacific peoples in Aotearoa through nursing practice or the context in which nurses practice.
